Grade 1/2 is hatching chicks!!! Yeah! We are all so excited to see the results of this experiment, and to learn about life cycles and change as we go along.
We will track the turning, monitor temperature and humidity in the incubator, and wait patiently for the main event (which should happen around May 16th!).
We are diving deep into descriptive writing here in Grade 1/2 and we have a new bulletin board display entitled "THE BEST PART OF ME" to check out when you stop by! Take a look and tell us what you think!
We are thrilled to announce that the one-two smarties raised the most $$$ for UNICEF and got to wear our PJs and snack on home made cookies today, courtesy of the youngest Ms. O'Leary 💚. Proud of us!
Grades 1 and 2 had the wonderful opportunity to watch a sweet puppet play this morning! The entire set was constructed of recycled/repurposed materials. The children loved the play-- the music, the set, the puppets, and the light effects! Lucky us!!!
Thanks to Chief Theriault and Firefighter Halse for visiting our class and grade 4 during SMART class last Thursday!!! They also brought us some neat treats, and reminded us to 'hear the beep where you sleep!'
Grade one/two is now in full swing... homework has been sent, guided reading has started, school fundraisers are running, and life is busy here at VMES! I will try to post updates here on a regular basis, so please check back, and enjoy peeking into classroom life!
Please don't hesitate to contact me directly with any questions or concerns!
Success! Grade 2 hatched out 15 baby chicks three weeks ago today! The children have been drawing them, reading to them, solving problems about them, and taking good care of them.
A few of the new hatchlings have 'flown the coop' for new homes, but 7 remain in our classroom for the time being. I'll post some pictures here of the big event!
Well, today is the day, friends. We have placed the eggs into the incubator, and will now wait with bated breath for the next 21 days to see the results of our experiment.
In addition to "chick fever", we are learning all about birds, so please ask your student what he or she might have learned this week, or what might have appeared in our classroom over the past weekend... (I'll post photos soon :))
We are looking and listening for birds in our environment, as well as the evidence they leave behind. Your student is welcome to bring in bird-related items for our nature table this month. Stay tuned for the chirp-chirp of more learning in grade 2!
