Exciting day! We arrived this morning to an incubator full of pipped eggs, and mad cheep-cheep-cheeeeping! Only slightly distracting, we had several looks at eggs, and although the real action did not commence until after 2pm, some children were still on the playground, and we called them in to watch the first couple of chicks hatch! I will post a few more pictures below... ask your second grader for details!
We have had a busy month, most lately welcoming parents, family and friends into our school for Employment Expo 2014. The diversity of projects, and formats in which they were presented, was absolutely amazing, and we thank you for your continued involvment in your child's education! THANK YOU!!! Approximately 3 weeks ago Grade 2, in cooperation with Grade 1/2, set 21 fertile (plus 2 infertile :-)) chicken eggs to develop in our classroom incubator. We hope that these eggs will hatch soon! The projected hatch date is Tuesday April 15th, and hope is running high in Grade 2. Of course, there are no guarantees, but we have all worked together to care for the eggs. Stay tuned for the exciting results! I must begin with apologies for not updating each week... March Break, and the birth of my new nephew, as well as the arrival of a guest in our school (and in my home) have derailed my "best laid plans". I hope to regain my initial momentum . . .
We have some renewed momentum after March Break, and are enjoying the presence of our visiting internship student from Quebec. There are many more adventures to finish off the month of March, and some new fun for April! I will try to put up some pictures as soon as I can! The Smarties learned some more about the Olympics today. Each Smartie spent some time recording what s/he knows about a sport of his/her choosing. Ask your Smartie which sport they chose! We saw some snippets of curling over popcorn/snacks this morning, and some hockey with our torch craft this afternoon! The Smarties have created custom Olympic torches with symbols of the Olympics and countries of the world to use at our '2014 Olympic Closing Ceremonies' on Monday February 24th in the afternoon. Remember to send your Smartie in RED and WHITE for Japan on Monday. Monday will also be the last day for skating! Thank you for all of your help at the rink to date!!! We really appreciate it! Recently, we enjoyed a visit from one of our class parents and a couple of the family's pets, Blacky and White-o. All of the children were thrilled to have a chance to meet, touch, and share treats with these charming, clever creatures!
The Grade Two Smarties have caught Olympic Fever, and are learning about Olympic Sports, Sportsmanship, and participating countries. In particular, we are focused on Japan and Japanese culture, since we have an in house 'expert' handy :-). The children have sampled some Japanese food... and, so far, plain white rice is a hit! Snow days have really thrown a wrench into the flow of our days, and I am hoping for a reprieve in the next week of Winter Carnival before March Break. Day 100 Celebrations were a hit, and we are still enjoying those presentations... Friday February 21st will be Day 102! Stay tuned for more photos and updates. I will try to update once a week, and we'll see how that goes. Please click on the 'contact' page in order to offer suggestions, or make requests about what you'd like to see here! |
